This novel began as a dream. In that dream, I woke up to find myself inhabiting the body of my middle school self. Although the dream didn't last long, it stuck with me. I wanted to explore what it might be like to be trapped in a younger version of yourself. Based off that, I began what I thought was going to be a short story - just for myself, and not something I really ever intended for anyone to read.

Then, something happened.

I liked what I was writing. Then, my writing got away from me. It spiraled out of control until it was the early (and terrible) version of the upcoming novel. I began to work through the issues I had, and began to find a semi-polished version I could be proud of.

That's when I began to think, "you know, maybe I've got a shot at getting this put out into the world". My first thought was to publish it on a blog site, but I've always wanted to hold a physical copy of my work in my hands. That's when I began to submit it to publishers.

As any author does, I faced a number of rejections, whether they were official (written out rejection letters), or through neglect (no answer at all). After a number of these, I went back and began to re-read my work. Come to find out the early chapters were still written like a short story.

No wonder no one wanted it.

I edited. I rewrote. I elaborated. I cut.

Finally, my dream email came.

"YOUR BOOK HAS BEEN ACCEPTED!"

I couldn't believe it. I didn't even react - I was shocked that a publisher wanted to pick up my work!

And, here we are. Even as I'm working through the publishing process, it still almost doesn't feel real. I'm excited. I'm nervous. But most of all, I'm thankful, and I cannot wait to have a real, physical copy of my novel on my bookshelf. I can only hope that you, the reader, share my excitement.
